Whipps, Inc. is a family-owned manufacturer of custom-fabricated water control gates, founded in 1977 by George and Pauline Whipps and headquartered at 370 South Athol Road in Athol, Massachusetts. The company maintains all design and fabrication operations in-house at its Massachusetts facility, using laser cutting and 3D CAD technology for precision manufacturing. Whipps organizes its product line into numbered series: the 900 Series covers stainless steel sluice gates (models 921 embedded slide, 923 slide, 924 sealed sluice, 925 pedestal sluice, plus weir and dual-stem variants), the 800 Series provides aluminum sluice gates (models 821 through 825 in corresponding configurations), the 500 Series includes stop logs (509, 510, 511 aluminum, 529 stainless steel), stop gates (501, 503, 503-C, 521, 523, 523-C), and bulkhead gates (519, 519-C, 529), the 450 Series offers flap gates in both rubber and metal flap configurations (models 451 and 452 in round, rectangular, and square shapes plus pipe flange and pontoon styles), the 706 Series provides mud valves, the 703 Series covers shear gates, and the 300 Series includes telescoping valves (model 310) and butterfly gates (model 340). Five mounting configurations are available: channel-mounted, embedded, wall-mounted, flange-mounted, and thimble-mounted. Whipps products carry NSF-61 certification for drinking water contact safety, and the company holds memberships in AWWA and AWS. Installations span all 50 states, nine Canadian provinces, and over a dozen international markets including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore, and New Zealand. Primary markets include environmental restoration, flood control, hydroelectric power, irrigation, mining, municipal stormwater, navigation locks, and water and wastewater treatment.
