Thordon Bearings, a division of the Thomson-Gordon Group established in 1911, engineers and manufactures polymer bearing and seal systems from its headquarters in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The company's core proposition is eliminating oil and grease from bearing applications — all Thordon products operate water-lubricated or dry, achieving zero pollution risk. Their product portfolio spans six primary polymer grades: Thordon SXL, an elastomeric polymer alloy supporting dry start-up with working pressures to 10 MPa (1,450 psi); Thordon XL, optimized for clean water service with good abrasion resistance; Thordon Composite (GM2401), a two-component bearing combining a RiverTough outer shell with a GM2401 inner wear surface delivering twice the abrasion resistance of rubber; ThorPlas-Blue, an engineered thermoplastic rated to 45 MPa (6,527 psi) dynamic pressure with a 15-year wearlife guarantee on wicket gate and linkage bearings; ThorPlas-White, carrying NSF/ANSI 61 certification for potable water contact and WRAS material approval; and Thordon HPSXL for high-pressure intermittent loads to 15 MPa, available as HPSXL TRAXL bonded in metallic shells for loads reaching 55 MPa. Applications span marine propulsion and rudder systems, hydroelectric turbine guide and wicket gate bearings, vertical pump bearings for open and closed tube configurations, and industrial sewage and wastewater treatment.
