Founded in 1983 and based in Kirchberg an der Jagst, Germany, SYSTEM S&P GmbH is a family-owned manufacturer specializing in compact wastewater treatment systems built around their proprietary Scheibentauchkörper (STK) rotating biological contactor technology. With approximately 40 employees and around 50% manufacturing depth, the company serves installations from 50 to over 5,000 population equivalents treating flows from 5 to 5,000+ m3. The STK process uses smooth, solid polypropylene discs (available in 1.5 m to 3.0 m diameters) that rotate slowly through wastewater, supporting biofilm growth that achieves biomass concentrations roughly 100 times greater than conventional activated sludge while requiring no return sludge, no separate aeration system, and producing 50% less excess sludge. The aerobic process management prevents odor nuisance, and the self-desludging rotor design reduces maintenance. SYSTEM S&P offers six installation configurations including underground, partial-underground, concrete, containerized, above-ground, and building-mounted options. The biological stage covers carbon degradation, nitrification, and denitrification with an optional pre-connected anoxic zone. Post-treatment uses purpose-designed lamella separators that exploit the high settling velocity of fixed-bed excess sludge, requiring only about 20% of conventional settling basin footprint. The Kompaktbiofilter Typ KBF provides exhaust air purification from organic odor contaminants at 50 to 1,000 m3/h. The company also provides comprehensive pretreatment equipment including scoop wheels, screens, sieves, sand and grease traps, pH correction systems, and flow distributors, along with retrofit upgrades for existing submerged body and disc plants.
