Reverion GmbH
About
Reverion GmbH, a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich based in Eresing, Germany, develops reversible solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power plants that combine four functions in a single system: electricity generation, electrolysis, energy storage, and carbon capture. Unlike conventional combined heat and power units, Reverion's systems operate without combustion, achieving up to 80 percent electrical efficiency from biogas — roughly double that of traditional CHP installations. The same hardware can switch to electrolysis mode in under one minute, producing green hydrogen or synthetic methane from surplus renewable electricity. The only byproduct is pure biogenic CO2, which can be captured for industrial use or permanent storage, making the overall process carbon-negative when paired with anaerobic digestion. Reverion offers three core configurations: a Biogas Power Plant optimized for agricultural and industrial biogas facilities, a Hydrogen Power Plant delivering up to 75 percent round-trip efficiency for long-duration energy storage, and a Natural Gas variant for conventional gas grid applications. Funded by the European Innovation Council, the company has partnered with Frontier on a biogas carbon removal pathway and appointed Andreas Aepli as CFO to lead industrial scale-up. Reverion targets farms, energy providers, and sector-coupling projects with modular, scalable technology that links electricity, gas, and CO2 markets.
