Purestream Services
About
Purestream Services, founded in 2010 and now operating as a Swire Water brand, is a national water treatment service provider specializing in thermal evaporation for industrial wastewater. The company has processed over 30 billion gallons of water to date, treating approximately 20 million barrels annually. Its core technology is the AVARA (Accelerated Vapor Recompression) system, a patented submerged-core mechanical vapor recompression evaporator developed in partnership with Utah State University's Space Dynamics Laboratory. AVARA uses a proprietary heat transfer surface where hot vapor from brine-laden feed is compressed and condensed on a higher-pressure side, releasing heat of vaporization to drive further evaporation. The system achieves typical TDS reduction below 100 ppm and TSS below 20 ppm, with volume reductions of 75-85% demonstrated in EPRI testing. Capacities range from 4,200 gpd to 420,000 gpd with custom engineering available above that range. Key design features include modular cartridge-based core banks that can be individually replaced without extended downtime, ultrasonic clean-in-place to prevent scaling, low-pressure operation for energy efficiency, wireless remote monitoring and diagnostics, and skid-mounted construction for rapid deployment. The AVARA system requires no open combustion sources, improving safety over traditional evaporators. Primary applications include flue gas desulfurization (FGD) wastewater treatment to meet EPA Effluent Limitation Guidelines, produced and frac water treatment and reuse in oil and gas operations, and industrial wastewater concentration for power generation and mining. Purestream offers equipment leasing and turnkey service packages rather than equipment sales, differentiating it from conventional manufacturers. Commercial deployments include facilities in Pennsylvania, Texas, Arkansas, and Wyoming.
