NPHarvest Oy, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, develops proprietary physicochemical nutrient recovery technology that extracts nitrogen and phosphorus from nutrient-rich wastewater streams and converts them into marketable agricultural and industrial products. The company's two-stage process first recovers nitrogen through hydrophobic membrane stripping, producing a pure ammonia salt as the end product, then recovers phosphorus via calcium precipitation, yielding amorphous calcium phosphate. The system achieves up to 90% recovery efficiency while tolerating influent suspended solids concentrations up to 3%, requiring only pH adjustment through alkaline and acid dosing with no heating, aeration, pressure, or additional chemical inputs. Field trials of the recovered nutrient products have demonstrated 30–40% higher crop yields compared to unfertilized plots and performance matching commercial fertilizers. NPHarvest targets four primary application sectors: municipal wastewater treatment plants, biogas facilities processing digestate, animal farming operations with nutrient-laden runoff, and industrial wastewater streams. The company is currently in commercial scale-up, supported by a €1.2M funding pathway through Business Finland's Deep Tech Accelerator program announced in January 2026 and membership in the EIT Food Accelerator Network 2025 cohort. The founding team comprises Dr. Juho Uzkurt Kaljunen (CEO/CTO, DSc Tech), Federico Varalta (Head of Business Operations, MSc Tech), and Burak Yirmibesoglu (Business Developer, MSc Tech). NPHarvest plans to exhibit at IFAT Munich in May 2026.
