Neogen
About
Neogen Corporation provides water microbiology testing solutions through its Colitag platform, an EPA-approved dehydrated culture medium that simultaneously detects total coliforms and Escherichia coli in drinking water, groundwater, and dairy source waters. The Colitag system uses a dual-enzyme substrate approach: ONPG targets beta-galactosidase activity to produce a yellow color change indicating total coliforms, while MUG targets beta-glucuronidase to produce blue fluorescence under UV light confirming E. coli presence. Results are available in as few as 16 hours, with sensitivity down to 1 CFU per 100 mL sample. The Colitag product line includes the Water Test System (Catalog 9857), sterile 120 mL sample containers with and without sodium thiosulfate for dechlorination, a color Comparator for presence/absence determination, and the MPNTray 97-well accessory for quantitative most-probable-number enumeration. Colitag holds EPA approval under 40 CFR 141.852(a)(5) for drinking water compliance monitoring and FDA acceptance for dairy source water testing. Beyond water-specific products, Neogen's broader portfolio spans food safety diagnostics including the Molecular Detection System for pathogen identification, Soleris automated microbial monitoring, Petrifilm culture plates, and Reveal lateral flow tests, serving food processing, agriculture, water utilities, and public health sectors across more than 100 countries.
