MUTAG A/S
About
MUTAG A/S is a Danish biofilm carrier media manufacturer specializing in MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) and IFAS (Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge) technology for biological water and wastewater treatment. Founded in 2001 and originally based in Aue, Germany, the company relocated to Ribe, Denmark following its acquisition by Matters Group in 2019. Mutag holds ISO 9001 certification and operates an in-house laboratory for density, tensile, microscopic, and biomass testing of carrier media. The company's flagship product is the Mutag BioChip, a next-generation biofilm carrier deployed in over 1,000 installations worldwide for nitrification, denitrification, and COD/BOD removal across municipal, aquaculture, food and beverage, textile, and pulp and paper applications. The product portfolio also includes Mutag BioNova high-standard bio media, Mutag OxyShield smart mounting system with integrated diffuser hoses for emergency aeration, and the Mutag PilotPlant mobile biological treatment testing unit for on-site evaluation using client-specific wastewater. In December 2025, Mutag acquired IP rights to Alpha Aqua, expanding its advanced water treatment capabilities. The company offers three-step process consulting: in-depth water analysis, collaborative solution development, and engineered optimization guidance, supported by a global distributor network spanning the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Vietnam, Middle East, Latin America, Poland, and Romania/Turkey.
