Marcab Company Inc. has manufactured gas scrubbing and purification systems since 1970 from its facility at 155 Balboa Street, Suite D-9, San Marcos, California. The company specializes in hydrogen sulfide removal from digester gas, biogas, and wastewater collection system headspace using its Iron Sponge dry-scrubbing technology. Iron Sponge media consists of wood chips impregnated with hydrated ferric oxide that react with H2S to produce iron sulfide and water, achieving outlet concentrations below 1 ppm while maintaining static pressure within 1 inch water column. Marcab holds a patented In-Vessel Regeneration System that allows spent media to be regenerated in place by filling the vessel with water, adding sodium bicarbonate to buffer at pH 8, and bubbling air through the bed to convert iron sulfide back to iron oxide, recovering 50-60% of original capacity and extending media service life to approximately three years through 2-3 regeneration cycles. Through a partnership with Columbia Pacific Biogas, Marcab offers complete gas conditioning skids from 30 to 2,800 scfm that integrate Iron Sponge H2S removal vessels in lead-lag configuration, activated carbon siloxane removal, temperature and moisture conditioning using custom heat exchangers fueled by treated wastewater, and gas boosting, all pre-piped and skid-mounted. Odor control systems include mobile units for manhole evacuation and dual-stage scrubbers combining Iron Sponge primary H2S removal with carbon secondary VOC removal, serving headworks, sludge holding tanks, SBRs, wet wells, pump stations, lift stations, covered clarifiers, and siphons. A notable installation at Sacramento Regional WWTP reduced H2S from 1,500 ppm to below 50 ppm. Marcab provides structural and seismic calculations, pressure-testing certification, on-site installation supervision, and first-media-regeneration oversight.
