Layne Christensen Company
About
Layne, a Granite Company, traces its origins to 1882 as a water-well drilling operation in South Dakota and was acquired by Granite Construction in 2018. Today the company provides full-lifecycle water management across supply, treatment, delivery, and maintenance from more than 50 offices throughout North and South America. Well drilling services cover hydrogeologic consulting, high-volume well construction for government, industrial, and agricultural clients, well rehabilitation, and pump sales and service with fully equipped in-house machine shops. Water treatment capabilities span VOC and radon removal via air stripping, ion exchange systems including low-waste, packed-bed, and Advanced Amberpack configurations, Layneox pressure filters, and LayneRT arsenic treatment media featuring offsite regeneration with zero waste discharge. Layne also provides PFAS and PFOS removal systems achieving concentrations below 70 ppt and hexavalent chromium treatment through three distinct technology approaches. Beyond treatment, the company constructs water transmission pipelines, dams, and reservoirs, performs canal lining that reduces seepage losses by 30 to 50 percent, and operates zero liquid discharge treatment plants. Layne Inline CIPP pipe lining and 24/7 emergency response round out the water services portfolio. Layne Water Midstream manages produced water for oil and gas operations in the Permian Basin, and the company's drilling expertise extends to mineral exploration including core and reverse circulation methods, notably contributing to the 2010 Chilean miner rescue.
