Kinéis
About
Kinéis, founded in 2018 as a spin-off from CLS and CNES (the French space agency), operates Europe's first dedicated IoT satellite constellation — 25 nanosatellites orbiting at 650 km in low Earth orbit across five orbital planes. Building on four decades of ARGOS satellite data-collection heritage, Kinéis delivers global IoT connectivity to the 85% of the planet beyond terrestrial network reach, with 80 daily satellite passes over any point on Earth and data delivery in minutes. The constellation supports bidirectional communication: uplink for sensor data transmission and downlink for remote device management, including actuator commands such as opening a dam valve during drought conditions. In the water and wastewater sector, Kinéis enables satellite-based monitoring of water quality parameters (nitrates, PFAS, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, heavy metals, salinity), hydraulic infrastructure integrity (dams, dikes, buried pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, distribution networks), and water levels (rivers, groundwater, canals). The platform provides flood and drought early warning, leak detection on remote pipelines, and predictive maintenance for pumping stations — reducing non-revenue water loss and costly site visits. Data integrates via APIs with Microsoft Azure IoT, AWS IoT Core, and other cloud platforms through the Actility ThingPark partnership. Commercial services launched in June 2025 following a 100 million euro investment round, with a sovereign data infrastructure hosted entirely in France.
Key Products
Low-power satellite transmitter module (transmit-only, Argos-2 standard) for OEM integration. Surface-mount form factor (31.2 x 21 x 3.5 mm, 3g), operates at 401.620-401.680 MHz with RF power 250-1000 mW. Data rates 200-400 bps, max payload 31 bytes per message. CE, FCC, ISED certified.
Next-generation satellite transceiver module (transmit + receive, Kinéis protocol) enabling bidirectional communication with downlink and uplink acknowledgment. Supports AT command interface for remote device management including firmware updates and actuator commands (e.g., opening a dam valve). FCC certified.
Pre-validated hardware reference design based on STMicroelectronics STM32WL5X MCU and Semtech LR1110 transceiver for partners building Kinéis-compatible IoT devices.
Development boards for prototyping with KIM1 and KIM2 modules respectively, enabling rapid integration testing.
STM32-based evaluation board for fast prototyping with the Kinéis software stack.
Pre-compiled software library for STM32WL including frame builder and radio modulation drivers. Reduces development cycles for OEM partners integrating Kinéis connectivity.
Global asset tracking via satellite IoT. Tracks containers, vehicles, and equipment across all transport modes even in areas with zero terrestrial network coverage. Uses GPS-free Doppler localization via satellite passes.
Continuous remote monitoring of infrastructure, equipment, and environmental parameters with data transmitted from autonomous sensors in near real-time. Enables 24/7 visibility of remote operations including water quality, hydraulic infrastructure, and water levels.
Rapid alert notification system that delivers automatic threshold-based alerts in minutes when monitored parameters exceed defined limits, such as water quality exceedances, flood levels, or equipment failures.
Satellite Automatic Identification System for maritime vessel tracking, detecting ship identity, position, status, and trajectory globally including open oceans. Offered via space-ais.com.
Three-stage integration program: (1) Use Case Validation, (2) Development and Integration with tech support and hardware design review, (3) Certification and Industrialization with device certification and mass production provisioning.
