Kerafol Keramische Folien GmbH and Co. Within water and process engineering, Kerafil's Filterkeramik division manufactures porous aluminum oxide filter discs available in 152mm, 312mm, and 374mm diameters with a base pore size of 2 micrometers, coated to achieve filtration fineness down to 5 nanometers through an asymmetrical layer structure. The discs use outside-to-inside flow, where filtrate collects in internal channels and exits through openings at the inner diameter. Kerafol offers two primary filtration process configurations: Dynamic Cross Flow Filtration, where disc rotation generates the cross-flow shear needed to manage solids loading, and Rotating Membrane Flotation for gas-liquid transfer applications including aeration and ozonation. The ceramic membranes resist chemical and thermal stresses, support regeneration by backwashing or hot steam sterilization, and deliver long service life compared to polymer alternatives. Beyond water and wastewater treatment, the discs serve the food industry for wine, beer, and juice clarification, the ceramics industry for glaze preparation and slurry concentration, and the medical and pharmaceutical sectors for sterile filtration.
