Jacobi Carbons, a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas Chemicals Co., Ltd. (acquired in 2014), is the world's largest manufacturer of coconut shell-based activated carbon with over double the production capacity of any other producer. Operating 20 manufacturing and processing facilities and two reactivation plants in Europe — with a new reactivation facility under development in France as of late 2025 — Jacobi employs over 1,850 professionals worldwide. The company supplies the broadest array of activated carbon types in the industry, sourced from coconut shell, bituminous coal, lignite, and wood, and available in powdered, granular, extruded, spherical, and felt cloth forms. Jacobi's branded product lines include AquaSorb for drinking water, wastewater, and industrial process water treatment; AddSorb for specialty impregnated carbons targeting acid gases, basic gases, formaldehyde, mercury, and odor control; EcoSorb for air and gas purification; PetroSorb for oil and gas applications; ColorSorb for color removal in food and pharmaceutical processing; GoldSorb and PicaGold for precious metals recovery; and ReSorb for reactivated carbons. The Resinex line offers ion exchange resins for water softening, chelation, and heavy metals removal. Jacobi also operates Mobile Filter Services providing on-site treatment solutions with engineering support. The company's applications span 18 sectors including PFAS removal, biogas treatment, pharmaceutical purification, and food and beverage processing.
