INNOWASTE USA
About
INNOWASTE is a clean technology company headquartered in Budapest, Hungary with US operations in Sheridan, Wyoming, that developed the InnoPellet system for converting wastewater sludge into ISO 21640:2021 solid recovered fuel (SRF) pellets and phosphorus-rich ash. Developed with 2 million euros in EU Horizon 2020 funding (grant #711540) and patented in over 30 countries, the InnoPellet system processes approximately 3,500 wet tons per year per unit (50,000 population equivalent) within a 2,500 sq ft footprint, reducing sludge volume by up to 80% with operating costs of $15-25 per wet ton and 2-5 year capital expenditure payback. The five-stage process chains an integrated screw press for initial dewatering, a pre-dryer reducing moisture to 40-50% dry solids using pellet-generated hot air, an extruder forming uniform pellets where one pound of pellets equals approximately 8 cubic feet of natural gas in heating capacity, a final dryer achieving 85-95% dry solids, and a combustion unit where 60-80% of the produced SRF pellets power the heating process while the remaining 20-40% can be sold or used off-site. The byproduct phosphorus-rich ash is recovered as commercializable fertilizer material. Each modular unit has a 25-year equipment lifetime, and configurations scale from single-unit to 16-unit arrays. The system is TUV-Rheinland certified, EU and EPA compliant, and cuts carbon footprint by 55%. INNOWASTE partners with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for EPA compliance testing in the American market, with annual savings exceeding $350,000 per unit compared to conventional disposal methods.
Key Products
Modular sludge-to-energy system that converts wastewater sludge into ISO 21640:2021 solid recovered fuel (SRF) pellets and phosphorus-rich ash, processing ~3,500 WT/year per unit with 2-5 year CapEx payback.
Built-in sludge dewatering press that serves as the first stage of the InnoPellet process, reducing sludge moisture before pre-drying.
First drying stage that reduces sludge moisture to 40-50% dry solids using hot air generated by the pellet combustion process, leveraging internal heat recovery.
Forms pre-dried sludge into uniform pellets (1 lb pellet = 8 cu ft natural gas equivalent) suitable for combustion as solid recovered fuel.
Second drying stage achieving 85-95% dry solids content in the SRF pellets, maximizing their calorific value for energy recovery.
Burns 60-80% of produced SRF pellets to generate hot air for the pre-dryer, making the process thermally self-sustaining while producing phosphorus-rich ash as a marketable byproduct.
Commercializable byproduct from the InnoPellet combustion process — phosphorus-rich ash suitable for fertilizer production and agricultural use.
