Howden
About
Howden, now part of Chart Industries, draws on over 160 years of engineering heritage to manufacture centrifugal turbo compressors and blowers for municipal wastewater treatment and industrial aeration. The Turblex and HV-TURBO brand turbo compressors deliver oil-free air for biological aeration across a broad capacity range—from 1,000 to 125,000 cubic meters per hour at pressures up to 2.25 bar(g). The proprietary DUAL POINT CONTROL system combines variable diffuser vanes and inlet guide vanes to maintain peak efficiency across the full operating envelope. The KA GC variant uses digester biogas as fuel, making wastewater aeration nearly energy self-sufficient, while the BaseLINE KA provides a cost-optimized configuration for standard aeration duty. Howden also produces the Spencer line of single and multi-stage centrifugal blowers and gas boosters rated for corrosive and harsh environments, Spencer Vortex regenerative blowers for low-flow moderate-pressure applications, and Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch (KKK) industrial turbo compressors. Control systems include Local Control Panels built on Siemens S7-1500 PLCs with touch-screen interfaces and Master Control Panels managing cascaded fleets of up to 15 compressors. The 4P aftermarket program—Parts, Presence, Precision, Prevention—and the Howden Uptime digital monitoring platform support the global installed base.
