HAHN Kunststoffe GmbH
About
HAHN Kunststoffe GmbH is a German manufacturer that transforms post-consumer mixed plastic waste into durable engineered products under the hanit brand at its Hunsrück headquarters. Processing 90,000 tonnes of plastic annually across six international sites in Germany, England, France, Canada, Italy, and Spain, the company produces over 2,000 standard products from its proprietary recycled plastic material, which is UV-resistant, chemically resistant to oils, alkalis, and acids, and backed by a 20-year guarantee. The material carries the German government’s Blue Angel eco-label, held continuously since 2005. For the water and wastewater sector, HAHN manufactures a purpose-built biofilter raised flooring system that serves as the ventilation and air-distribution floor inside biofilter vessels at sewage treatment plants, biogas facilities, and composting operations. The grating panels feature approximately 32 percent open surface area, withstand continuous exposure to 35°C and near-100 percent humidity, resist hydrogen sulfide corrosion that degrades concrete and steel alternatives, and are vehicle-rated to 3 tonnes gross weight. A landmark installation at Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant demonstrated a 20 percent increase in biofilter capacity using hanit flooring, achieving 99 percent hydrogen sulfide removal while eliminating the need for a planned six-cell biofilter extension. The company also produces cable ducts and tunnel support blocks used in water infrastructure construction—the latter supporting loads up to 90 tonnes for concrete tunnel segment storage—and porous paving for stormwater infiltration. Custom product development is available through the hanit Innovation division.
Key Products
Provides corrosion-resistant ventilation and air-distribution flooring for biofilter vessels at sewage treatment plants, biogas plants, and composting facilities, replacing concrete or steel media supports that degrade in humid acidic environments
Protect and route cables and wiring in industrial and infrastructure settings including water and wastewater treatment plants, resisting chemical exposure and mechanical stress
Seal and protect open cable channels in industrial environments, available in trapezoidal, curved, and angled configurations with optional steel reinforcement
Provide corrosion-free, stress-free storage and positioning of concrete tunnel segments used in sewer and water infrastructure tunneling projects, supporting loads up to 90 tonnes
Enables stormwater infiltration and ground reinforcement for sustainable drainage applications at treatment plant sites and surrounding infrastructure
