EXPO-NET Danmark A/S, headquartered in Hjørring, Denmark, is the manufacturer of BIO-BLOK structured biofilm carrier media used in biological wastewater treatment, aquaculture biofiltration, and stormwater management. Developed in the early 1980s, BIO-BLOK products are modular PVC tube-bundle blocks that maximize surface area for biofilm attachment while maintaining high void ratios for hydraulic flow. The product line spans seven distinct models differentiated by specific surface area, ranging from BIO-BLOK 80 HDG (80 m²/m³, 95% void, smooth surface, 54×54×55 cm modules) to BIO-BLOK 300 (300 m²/m³, 72% void, rough surface, 55×25.7×55 cm modules). The HDG variants with smooth surfaces serve aeration, degassing, and stormwater applications, while rough-surface models (BIO-BLOK 100 through 200) target BOD removal, nitrification (NH4), and denitrification (NO3). BIO-BLOK Random loose media (570 m²/m³, Ø25×10 mm elements) provides the highest surface density for intensive nitrification. Each module uses interlocking connection kits (Ø67.5mm or Ø55mm depending on model) for easy assembly in trickling filters and submerged contact beds.
