bluESProtec GmbH of Munich, Germany, supplies FloodSax, a water-activated barrier that inflates itself on contact with water and substitutes for conventional sandbags. Dry units are light enough for rapid transport and deployment; once wetted, each absorbs around 23 liters within roughly three minutes, holds up to 25 liters, retains liquid for as long as three months, and does the work of about four sandbags - a single box standing in for up to 80. No pre-soaking or preparation is required, and disposal is environmentally friendly. More than two million units have been sold to fire brigades containing firefighting runoff, facility managers, industry, logistics operators, tradespeople, maritime users, public authorities, and homeowners. Sizing guidance figures roughly four to five units per meter of protective wall. A sister product, BlastSax, extends the technology to broader protective uses.
