Applied Fabric Technologies
About
Applied Fabric Technologies Inc. (AFTI) was founded in 1988 by Peter Lane in Orchard Park, New York, originating from the Specialty Products Division of Globe International (formerly Albany International). The company established itself as an industry leader in oil spill containment and industrial coated fabric products before merging with Denmark-based DESMI Ro-Clean in 2008 to form Desmi-AFTI, creating one of the world’s largest manufacturers of oil spill response equipment. AFTI’s product portfolio includes containment booms for permanent facility protection and rapid deployment, the PyroBoom fire-resistant boom designed for in-situ burn operations during oil spill events, skimmers for oil recovery, specialized workboats for spill response operations, dispersant application systems, and trash traps for debris management in waterways. The company also manufactures industrial textile products including conveyor belts, food handling belting, and synthetic felt belts. Peter Lane chaired ASTM Committee F20 on Hazardous Substances and Oil Spill Response and received the ASTM International Award of Merit in 2012, developing standards for coated fabric product storage life testing. Lane designed and supervised hundreds of oil spill containment and recovery installations worldwide, including offshore boom systems and U.S. Navy training installations. AFTI serves domestic and international markets from its Orchard Park facility at 227 Thorn Avenue.
