Ansonics Inc.
About
Ansonics Inc., originally incorporated as Techsonics Inc. in 1963 and based in El Prado, New Mexico, manufactured ultrasonic leak detection and mechanical diagnostic instruments for over 60 years before ceasing operations. The company's flagship product was the Son-Tector 110, a handheld ultrasonic detector operating in the 35–45 kHz range with 0.5 cc/sec sensitivity, capable of detecting a 5 PSI leak from a 0.006-inch orifice at 30 feet. The Son-Tector 112 Package bundled the 110M detector unit with hand probe, sound concentrator, contact probe, six-foot coiled cord, and padded headphones for combined leak and mechanical diagnostics. The companion Son-Caster ultrasonic transmitter enabled non-pressurized leak testing of window seals, cold storage doors, and vehicle bodies by generating ultrasonic noise at test boundaries. Accessories included contact probes for bearing wear and valve diagnostics, sound concentrators for pinpointing leak locations, and remote sensor cables. The solid-state analog circuitry ran on a 9V battery providing up to 100 hours of operation. Ansonics was a small, closely held corporation with approximately two employees. While the company appears in water industry directories, its core applications were HVAC leak detection, steam trap testing, corona discharge inspection, and industrial maintenance diagnostics rather than water or wastewater treatment processes.
