ANDalyze
About
ANDalyze, based in Champaign, Illinois, specializes in catalytic DNA (DNAzyme) biosensor technology for rapid heavy metal detection in water. Founded on research from Dr. Yi Lu at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the company commercialized DNAzyme sensor technology into a portable analytical platform capable of delivering quantitative results in under 60 seconds using just 1 mL of sample volume. The AND1100 handheld fluorimeter is the company's flagship instrument, featuring IP54 ruggedization, CE certification, EPA ETV validation, USB data output, and a rechargeable battery supporting over 50 assays per charge. It reads proprietary DNAzyme sensor cartridges that detect lead (with a limit of detection below 2 ppb), uranium, copper, mercury, zinc, and cadmium. ANDalyze was acquired by AlpHa Measurement Solutions LLC of Houston, Texas in January 2022. The company received over $2 million in SBIR/STTR grants from NIEHS and NIGMS and deployed its technology during the Flint, Michigan lead crisis, with over 300 fluorimeters and 60,000 sensors sold globally. An E. coli biosensor with results in under 8 hours is under development.
