About
American Excelsior Company (AEC), founded in 1888 and headquartered in Arlington, Texas, is the inventor of the biodegradable erosion control blanket and the creator of the Curlex brand, with over 130 years in business and more than 50 years specializing in erosion control. Manufacturing takes place in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, with additional locations in Ohio, Alabama, Illinois, and Washington. All Curlex fibers are sustainably harvested from Great Lakes Aspen forests and are EPA-listed sorbents that remove over 95% of PAHs and filter heavy metals and nutrients from contaminated stormwater. The Curlex product line spans erosion control blankets (Curlex I, II, III, CL, NetFree, and High Velocity), agricultural straw and coconut fiber blankets (AEC Premier Straw, Premier Coconut, and Premier Straw/Coconut), and turf reinforcement mats (TriNet Curlex, TriNet Recyclex made from 100% recycled post-consumer soda bottles, TriNet Coconut, TriNet Straw/Coconut, Recyclex TRM, and Curlex Enforcer). Sediment control products include Curlex Sediment Log, Curlex Bloc (a non-toxic alternative to coir logs with flow rate exceeding 35 GPM/ft squared), Curlex SiltTRAP (a mess-free silt fence alternative), and Hi-Vis Excelsior Logs. Hydraulic mulch products include Bindex BFM bonded fiber matrix and Excel Fibermulch II. AEC also offers the E-Staple biodegradable anchor (made from plant sugars and oils, degrading in 8-24 months), ErosionWorks design software, and operates ErosionLab, the industry's largest privately-owned erosion control testing facility.
