American Cast Iron Pipe Company, known as AMERICAN, is one of the oldest employee-owned manufacturers in the United States, founded in 1905 and headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, with approximately 3,000 employees and $1.8 billion in revenue (2023). The company operates across five product divisions. AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe produces 4-inch through 64-inch ductile iron pipe for municipal water and wastewater distribution and transmission, with fabrication for treatment plants and pump stations. AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe manufactures large-diameter spiral-welded steel pipe up to 144 inches for water/wastewater transmission, hydroelectric, and piling and casing applications, produced at facilities in Columbia, South Carolina; Flint, Michigan; and Paris, Texas. AMERICAN Flow Control offers valves from 2-inch through 66-inch, fire hydrants under the American-Darling and Waterous brands, tapping sleeves, and indicator posts, manufactured in Beaumont, Texas and South St. Paul, Minnesota. AMERICAN Steel Pipe produces high-frequency-welded steel pipe to API standards for energy, carbon capture, and piling markets from Pryor, Oklahoma. Specification Rubber Products, a subsidiary, manufactures specialty rubber components and recently completed its largest expansion in company history. AMERICAN developed the Mono-Cast centrifugal casting method and pioneered cement-lined pipe, which became the industry standard. Products meet ANSI/AWWA, ASTM, and ISO 9001 standards and carry NSF 61 certification. Markets served include water and wastewater, fire protection, energy, carbon capture, mining, hydroelectric, and agriculture.
