About

ADI Systems, now a brand within Xylem Inc., has designed and built industrial wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy solutions for over 40 years from its headquarters in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The company operates across three core technology domains: anaerobic digestion, aerobic treatment, and biogas utilization for renewable energy recovery. ADI's flagship product is the ADI-BVF reactor, a high-rate anaerobic digester configured as either an in-ground earthen basin or above-ground tank. The BVF reactor handles wastewater with moderate to high organic loading (COD/BOD), suspended solids, and fat, oil, and grease without requiring up-front solids removal, achieving over 90% COD removal in documented installations. The system features a custom-designed geomembrane cover that simultaneously collects biogas, provides insulation, and controls odor. ADI also provides Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) systems for aerobic treatment, and supports biogas-to-energy recovery pathways including renewable natural gas production. With more than 140 full-scale installations worldwide, ADI's projects span food processing, dairy, brewing, pulp and paper, biofuels, and sustainable aviation fuel industries. Notable installations include a 50,000 cubic meter BVF reactor treating potato and pea processing wastewater in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and systems for Bush Brothers, Spoetzl Brewery, Simplot, and Bellisio Foods.
