About

Aurora Motors, doing business as AA Rotating Apparatus Corp., is a Hayward, California-based manufacturer specializing in NEMA Premium Efficiency vertical pump motors for water, wastewater, agricultural, industrial, and fire protection applications. Founded in 1987, the company launched its vertical hollow-shaft and solid-shaft motor lines in 2008 and grew to serve customers in over 30 countries from its Hayward headquarters and Shanghai engineering center. Aurora's product range centers on vertical hollow-shaft (VHS) and vertical solid-shaft (VSS) pump motors from 7.5 hp to 1,000 hp, offered in Weather Protected Type I (WP1) and Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) enclosures across three efficiency tiers: NEMA Premium, High Efficiency, and Standard Efficiency. Key construction features include cast-iron frames, forged steel non-reverse ratchet assemblies to prevent pump backspin, double VPI vacuum pressure impregnation with tropicalized epoxy varnish, P5 aviation-grade thrust bearings rated to 175% extra-high thrust capacity on 360-frame and larger units, and standard 120V space heaters with PTC thermistors. All motors are UL Listed and comply with NEMA MG-1 Part 31 for inverter-duty operation. In December 2024, ABB acquired Aurora Motors as a bolt-on addition to its NEMA Motors Division.
